Ballack to miss World Cup

Germany have been rocked by the news that captain Michael Ballack is going to miss the 2010 South Africa World Cup with ankle ligament damage. The Chelsea midfielder was injured during Saturday’s FA Cup final, ironically by former German youth international Kevin-Prince Boateng who is likely to go to the tournament with Ghana. Former German coach Rudi Voller has lamented the loss of his nation’s skipper, commenting that “there are players in the team who cant be replaced and Michael Ballack is one of them.” The Germans remain 14/1 in the World Cup betting odds to win the competition, alongside defending champions Italy. If you fancy an England v Germany final, you can get a World Cup bet on that happening at odds of 25/1.
